“Welcome to Holy Family Parish. While devotion to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph starts in the 17th century, the Feast of the Holy Family in the liturgy only dates back to 1921, but many great artists down the ages have loved to paint pictures of the Holy Family. What appeals to us is that Jesus, shared a family like our own. Like so many refugees and immigrants, Jesus was born away from home, sheltered in a stable, because there was no room in the inn. With Joseph and Mary, Jesus had to flee from his homeland because of King Herod’s determination to kill the child whom he saw as a threat and they lived in Egypt as exiles. When they eventually returned home to Nazareth, after Herod’s death, Jesus was known as the son of Joseph, the Carpenter, surrounded by his relatives till he heard the call of John the Baptist and went to be baptised in the Jordan.”
